Lore Discovered

Dragon Pillar

Evil totems placed throughout the Ekujae territory

A 10-foot-tall wooden pole topped by a wooden carving of Dahak's head. Each dragon pillar's head has been treated with something to give it a distinct color, as indicated in the specific encounter, but regardless of color, plumes of smoke waft up from the mouth.

Elves found in Mwangi Expanse

When Earthfall was imminent, the Ekujae chose to remain on Golarion, despite the incoming calamity, instead of returning to Sovyrian with the rest of their race. In the wake of Earthfall, they came into conflict with a manifestation of Dahak, who saw the chance to wreak havoc in Golarion without drawing the attention of his father and archenemy Apsu. Many Ekujae heroes gave their lives to bolster the strength of their comrades and to allow them to defeat Dahak. The Ekujae spilled Dahak's blood across their lands and broke a horn and two fangs from his head, before driving his manifestation into one of the aiudara that makes up Alseta's Ring, trapping him in a space between realities. Ekujae consider this battle their greatest victory and defeat: they managed to defeat a living aspect of a deity, something which many others would never attempt, and yet they failed to finish off their enemy.

Aiudara

Ancient Portal System

The party has heard several terms they now realize are referring to aiudara, or "elf gates". They learned this term from the notes of Voz Lirayne, she had discovered, or re-discovered, the location of Alseta's Ring, an aiudara. The Cinderclaw Cultists seemed to refer to this same phenomena as huntergate, perhaps the only term they could muster in their primitive minds. Voz seems to have struck a deal with someone named Laslunn of the Scarlet Triad to sell the location of the gate. Her notes indicate the location is south of her campsite in Goblinblood Caves.

Tunnel to Breachill

The party discovered a magically created tunnel to Breachill in the Citadel Altaerein crypts. Alak Stagram confirmed that this tunnel was once used by the Hellknights of the Order of the Nail. The party discovered the footprints of Voz Lirayne coming and going from the tunnel entrance. They followed it and ended up in the basement of a Breachill building.

Dahak

Patron deity of Evil Dragons

Using occult knowledge the witch was able to inform the party of the Cinderclaw connection Dahak. Even those with limited knowledge recognize the name as the patron deity of evil dragons and a legendary name from the history books, and storybooks, of Golarion. He is known most terribly as the dragon that manifested himself into the mortal realm and wrought terrible destruction just after the Earthfall event.

Cinderclaw Cult

A strange religious sect from the Mwangi Expanse

The party does not know much more about this cult other than what they have been able to learn from defeated cultists. They observed the insignia they all bear, some with their flesh, and the witch was able to discern a connection Dahak and their origin being the Mwangi Expanse.

The Truth on Breachill

Account by Voz Lirayne purporting to tell the "true" origin of Breachill

The party found this text while searching The Reliant Book Company. In it, Voz claims that the town of 'Breach's Hill' was actually founded by the gold dragon Mengkare in disguise after he struck victims of a failed experiment with amnesia and left them abandoned in the Five Kings Mountains. This dragon was hoping to seed the perfect society, utopia, but his desired city of Paragon kept slipping from his reach. Though his participants had agreed to the Golden Contract, they quickly became discontented with the amount of self-sacrifice being required and the squabbling annoyed the dragon to the point of declaring the experiment a failure. His pride, however, led him to return in the form of the wizard Lamond Breachton and he bestowed on the amnesiac founders of the town a system of governance and a new history to begin forging. Curiously, she does not offer any conjecture on why Mengkare chose this place, nor what became of the dragon when his work with Breachill concluded.

Alseta's Ring

Ancient artifact sought after by Calmont

Calmont claimed he was searching for the location of Alseta's Ring after being forced to transcibe information about it by his former employer Voz Lirayne. Believing it to be of great value, he was attempting to threaten the Bumblebrashers when the party intervened. The Bumblebrashers has no knowledge of any ring, but they do hope it is shiny.

The party searched The Reliant Book Company, but, suspiciously, they found no mention of Alseta's Ring.

Stagram Family

A family of Hellknight serving the Order of the Nail

The party met and befriended Alak Stagram who informed them of his heritage as a third generation recruit of the Hellknight Order of the Nail. He has returned to Citadel Altaerein in search of a family heirloom he believes to be stored somewhere in the ruin.

The Order of the Nail

Hellknight Order that once occupied Citadel Altaerein

One of the original seven orders of Hellknights founded in 4638 AR, the Order of the Nail was coaxed to relocate to Varisia in 4682 AR by Korvosa's Queen Domina. Although the belief of the Queen was that her invitation and generosity would make the Hellknights indebted to the crown, this was not the case, and the government has since held a decades-old grudge against the Order. The Hellknights instead pursue their own agenda and follow their own ideals of law and justice. Even so, they have aided the city on several occasions (after being well-compensated) and their subjugation of the surrounding wilds have been of assistance to the Korvosan crown. Feared and misunderstood by both the populace and the city guard, the Hellknights are sometimes referred to as "Domina's Devils".

Hellknights

The purpose of the Hellknights is to create, enforce, and maintain the rule of law. The rule they turn to is embodied in the Measure and the Chain, the legal code the Hellknights maintain in Cheliax and aspire to everywhere.

Hellknights embody order in its purest form, beginning with their own hierarchy and strict system of ranks. In order to gain actual membership into a Hellknight order, armigers must first pass a trial known simply as the Test, a brutal exam in which a would-be Hellknight must singly face off against a devil summoned from the depths ofHell. If she manages to defeat the outsider, she gains entry into her chosen Hellknight order; defeat, on the other hand, entails only certain and gruesome death.

Bumblebrasher Clan

Goblin Clan currently occupying Citadel Altaerein

According to Warbal the Bumblebrashers "are a tribe of goblins who have, for years now, lived peacefully and in isolation in Citadel Altaerein, the former Hellknight keep on the hill just outside of town. Typically, every two weeks I meet with Helba, the tribe’s chieftain, on the road outside the keep. We discuss news, and I convey the town’s interests and hear any concerns that the tribe might wish me to bring before the council. It is a relationship of utmost importance, and Helba is normally punctual. But she has missed our previous two meetings, and I have seen plumes of smoke coming from the top of the citadel. The smoke is a chalky red in color—the tribe’s traditional color of distress. I fear that the Bumblebrashers are in danger, or that something dire has befallen them. It has sickened me with worry.”

Call for Heroes

A monthly exercise of the Breachill Town Council

The council holds a public Call for Heroes once per month expressly to hear petitions from residents who wish the town to hire adventurers on their behalf. At the end of a resident’s address to the council, the council members discuss the petition before voting whether to expend public funds on it. For petitions that are approved—and most of the one or two requests per month are approved—the council then opens the floor to adventurers in attendance at the meeting who wish to tackle the challenge. Heroes looking for work often attend these meetings with a prepared list of qualifications, and the council hires an appropriate number of candidates who are well suited for each job. After the meeting, the adventurers are expected to follow up regularly with the petitioner and with the council. Those heroes who resolve their assigned challenges are paid handsomely in gold pieces and receive preferential consideration for future official work that might use their demonstrated talents
